I bought this book recently. It's a wonderful little book, except it’s not that little. I know its going to be a good reference book. It contains the history of how 1100 kanji were formed, which is a considerable amount more than Japanese people are taught in schools. I heard from my students that in Japanese schools, children do learn the history of some kanji, but not a huge amount, and they aren't required to remember the history of the kanji as they are the actual kanji itself. A very interesting read!
